CARE GIVER AND VETERAN SUPPORT SERVICES

The Problem

The current growth of the population ages 65 and older, driven by the large the baby boom generation, is unprecedented in U.S. history. As they have passed through each major stage of life, baby boomers (between ages 55 and 73 in 2019) have brought both challenges and opportunities to the economy, infrastructure, and institutions.

The number of Americans ages 65 and older is projected to nearly double from 52 million in 2018 to 95 million by 2060, and the 65-and-older age group’s share of the total population will rise from 16 percent to 23 percent.

The cost of care has risen 20% in the past two years due to a reduced labor pool and fewer worker going into service.

The Solution

Caregiver and Veteran support Services offers a wide range of community-based support services targeted to veterans and military families. Services are designed to decrease caregiver burden and stress and empower the caregiver and recipient through education and community resources to maintain and or to improve their quality of life.

This program provides in home respite, Virtual Respite, Personal Protective Equipment assembly and distribution.

By using an integrated approach to health services, we can identify seniors that are experiencing a change in condition before it becomes critical. For example, by using volunteers or caregivers to assist with respite, companionship, and activities of daily living, we can identify food insecurity, medical or social needs, or a senior at risk of loosing their housing. These individuals will also reduce social isolation that seniors are experiencing more than ever.

Targeted Focus

Seniors and their family caregivers.

Why Us

The founders of FCI have over 50 years of combined experience in senior service. In a Transition program they implemented for seniors discharging from a skilled setting, they provided seniors caregiving services for 30 days. After 24 months, they had less than a 1% re-hospitalization rate, demonstrating that custodial non-medical services can have a great impact on the ability to age in place.

Philanthropic Opportunity

Legacy Corps partners with nonprofits to provide volunteers for respite, transportation and well checks to disabled veterans or their family members. Legacy Corps is federally funded by AmeriCorps and administered by Arizona State University. With 27 volunteers we could provide over 12,000 hours each year to this population. They are proposing support of $72,453. FCI would need to provide a $25,454 match. With the $25,454 match, veterans and their families would receive respite services they otherwise would not have access to.

All assistance comes from private donors, corporate partners, fundraising, and grants.
